Social Safety
🛡️ Introduction to Social Safety
At Scouting Graaf Folke Bernadotte Group 2, we believe it’s essential that all members can enjoy fun and challenging Scouting activities in a socially safe environment.
🔍 What Is Social Safety?
Social safety within our group means that members feel protected from inappropriate or boundary-crossing behavior. This includes any actions that violate our code of conduct or the law—such as harassment, theft, bullying, peer pressure, or violence. Together with Scouting Nederland, we actively work to protect all members at the local, regional, and national levels. Awareness and prevention are key to creating a safe and respectful environment.
📜 Code of Conduct
Our code of conduct sets clear boundaries for interactions with minors. Everyone in a leadership or volunteer role within our group is expected to uphold this code. We follow the official Scouting Nederland code of conduct. All volunteers are introduced to this code when they begin their role.
âś… Certificate of Conduct (VOG)
When you think of Scouting, you think of fun, adventure, and growth—not inappropriate behavior. That’s why a Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is mandatory for all volunteers. This is one of the measures we take to ensure a safe environment. The internal regulations of Scouting Nederland also allow us to take action if a VOG is not provided or if inappropriate behavior occurs.
🧠Volunteer Onboarding Policy
To ensure that new volunteers are a great fit for our group, we conduct intake interviews and follow a three-month trial period, as outlined in the Scouting Nederland regulations. During this time, we focus on the role’s responsibilities, the code of conduct, internal policies, and available training. We use onboarding methods developed by Scouting Nederland, and a VOG must be submitted immediately after the onboarding interview.
🤝 Confidential Advisors
In the event of a serious incident—such as inappropriate behavior, an accident, or a death—our board members and confidential advisors are here to support you. Their contact details can be found on our website under the “Contact” tab.
You can also reach out to the Social Safety Team at Scouting Nederland, which includes trained volunteers who advise local groups and refer cases to the appropriate authorities when needed.
