Escaped cows

Yesterday a group of cows had escaped their farm. While the Beavers were on an adventure, they suddenly crossed the cows path. The police had already caught the cows and had shut of the area with ropes. The Beavers researched how the cows were doing and if their caretaking was done following the Beaver standerds.

Installing Beavers

Today we installed new Beavers. They are now officially real GFB2 Beavers. The new Beavers had to take an oath and then received their badges. After that, we played lots of games. We started by jumping over the ditch. The caller shouted legs  “open” and “closed,” and the Beavers had to follow the instructions. But what the caller said didn’t always match his movements, which made it quite challenging at times.

Next, we played Dutch Lions. Everyone had to run from one side of the field to the other without being tagged by the person in the middle. Afterwards, we ate cupcakes with lots of whipped cream, without using our hands. We also baked bread over the fire. We laughed a lot and had a great time.

Throwing dice through the forest

All of the activities today were based on chance. The Beavers had to throw a dice for every decision. The dice decided where we were going and what activities we were going to do. The Beavers were lead through the forest and through a lot of mud. The route eventually lead us to an open space. Here we played the game red light, green light and a version of tag that involves a lot of hoops. The Beavers also jumped into small ponds of water. At the end of today, they even beat the instructors at a game of brick football.

Pieten Camp 2025

Sinterklaas and his Pieten visited the scouting group this Saturday. Puzzle pieces had been scattered around the clubhouse, and the Beavers had to search for all the pieces and put the puzzles back together. Afterwards, Sinterklaas read to them from his big book. He even knew that the Beavers were good at baking apple turnovers. Unfortunately, something had gone wrong with the presents. In the dark, Sinterklaas had stumbled and all the presents had fallen out of his sack. It was too dark to find them again, and he had accidentally filled his sack with pieces of wood instead.

After a good night’s sleep, the Beavers were able to find the presents again the next day. They had to follow a trail of aluminum through the forest to locate them. After this, the Beavers were trained to become Pieten. They had to climb over an obstacle course and throw presents into a chimney. They also had to learn how to sneak quietly across rooftops. They practiced this through a game of Red Light, Green Light.

Once they were properly trained, the Beavers were allowed to open their presents. They turned out to be laser game sets. The Beavers spent the rest of the morning running around and trying to tag each other with the lasers. It was a very successful camp!

Quartet and hot chocolate

This Saturday we were running through the forest. We brought a big wheelbarrow filled with all kinds of objects. From hoops to balls, everything was in there. The Beavers had to make a circle out of sticks and collect four identical objects inside of it. They were also allowed to steal from each other, but they could only hold one object at a time. Once you had four identical objects, you had to shout QUARTET as loudly as you could.

After playing the game, the Beavers went back to the clubhouse. There we drank hot chocolate and ate cookies by the fire. It was delicious and cozy.

Autumn leaves

Today, the Beavers went to the forest, surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves. We set out to build a big wooden hut! The Beavers were divided into two groups, and each team had to build a strong and beautiful hut.

All through the forest, they searched for the perfect branches and leaves. Then we heard the call that there were only a few minutes left to finish the huts. The Beavers rushed around, quickly placing the last branches and leaves.

Next, the Beavers had to hide cones inside and on top of their huts. Everyone received a card with fire, water, or sponge. They had to tag each other and win using the powers of their cards. Once they succeeded, they could run off to search for all the cones.

After the game, we took the Jungle Path back to the lodge. The Beavers climbed over fallen tree trunks and ran through tall grass until they reached a huge pile of leaves. Hidden inside was one last cone! The Beavers rolled and climbed through the leaves, searching for it with great excitement. It was a grand autumn adventure! 🍁

The GFBake-off

An exciting competition awaited the Beavers this week. Three chefs had flown over from Japan to teach the Beavers how to bake and to judge the competition. The Beavers had to bake the most delicious Dutch apple turnovers, while the team of leaders baked an apple-pear cake blindfolded. They started by cutting the apples into smaller pieces with the help of the chefs. Cinnamon was added to the apples and the mixture was placed on pieces of dough. Every Beaver made two very tasty apple turnovers. While these were in the oven, we played hide and seek and a game of red light, green light. Then it was time for the tasting, and it was very clear that the Beavers had won.

Eggs in oranges

The Beavers played lots of games in the forest today. They could earn coins by playing all the different games. When we returned to the scouts cabin, the Beavers could buy eggs, oranges and tools with their coins. The eggs were placed in the orange peel and placed on the fire. Afterwards the Beavers enjoyed their very delicious eggs.

Beaver pilots

Today, the Beavers were trained by pilot Merel to become Beaver pilots. We started with a game of airplane tag. The tagger had to run around with his arms stretched out like an airplane and tag the other Beavers. After that, the Beaver pilots in training had to build their own paper airplane. These were then beautifully decorated with colourfull markers and lots of stickers.

Of course, the Beavers also had to learn how to fly an airplane. A course made of ropes and hoops was set up. The Beavers had to throw their airplanes as far as possible to earn the most points. If an airplane flew through a hoop, the Beavers would receive an extra point.

Since airplanes can also deliver packages, the Beavers practiced that too. They had to try delivering as much packages from one side of the path to the other without getting tagged. After this eventful training the Beavers had all earned their own Beaver pilot diploma.

A morning full of games

We started this rainy morning with a game of tree tag. If the Beavers were tagged, they had to stand like a tree with their arms wide. They could be freed again if their arms were pushed down. After this game, we had an object race. The beavers were split into two groups and had to race to grab the object placed in the middle. They slid across the ground trying to be the first to grab it.

Next, the Beavers also formed a big snake and maneuvered through a hoop. We stood in a line, holding hands, and everyone had to pass through the hoop without letting go. Of course, a bit of rain does not stop the Beavers! We went outside and played tag. Afterwards, we enjoyed some delicious warm chocolate milk with whipped cream.
